Now that I've explained the chakras generally, this will be a more in-depth look at the Root or Base Chakra, which is known in Sanskrit as Muladhara meaning root or support. I recently worked with a friend who kindly checked my chakras for me to see which ones were open and flowing freely, and which needed to be unblocked. I found out that my Root Chakra is actually unblocked so it technically doesn't need any work but it does if I don't want it to become blocked again.
The Root Chakra is all about being aware of your basic needs and how you take these into account. This chakra is also about nurturing yourself, keeping life vibrant and sustainable. The Root Chakra holds all the qualities needed to maintain existence in an orderly fashion, which includes being stable and constant. The Root Chakra focuses on shelter, sustenance and all the things that keep life moving along.
The Root Chakra flourishes when there are levels of security present that keep chaos and evil far from the door of life. It's also where patience lives, particularly when that patience is all about see our own dreams and goals come true.
This is the anchorpoint of everything else, so it's only logical that when this chakra is not balanced and is blocked, it affects all of the other chakras. Any work done on any chakra will always flow up and down and have an effect on the others. This chakra supports all the others so when it's not balanced, none of the chakras are fully balanced.
This chakra holds your ancestral roots, specifically when it comes to the qualities of survival your ancestors had. By this I mean, if your ancestors had to fight to maintain their way of life or even find a better one, their courage and tenacity are part of your genetic heritage and are hidden within your DNA. So when you're in a difficult situation, you can tap into the power of the Root Chakra to find courage, cunning and a ruthless desire to live.
At the same time, the Root Chakra takes its strength from us being patient, resourceful and hopeful about life. It's important that we stay positive and open to any and all possibilities as this gives our Root Chakra further strength while allowing us to be more stable and have access to a greater strength within our own selves.
If the energy of the Root Chakra is low or blocked, then out connection to nature and the world around us is weakened. We may feel more spacey or ungrounded, and less stable. We may even have a tendency to neglect our physical needs, becoming unhealthy and weak because of this.
On the reverse of this, if this Chakra is overstimulated, then we can become too attached to the material world, placing too much importance on material wealth and possessions. This may leave us unable to develop the higher levels of our nature due to being fearful of losing these possessions. A miser, someone who is unable to enjoy their wealth because they are scared of losing, is the perfect example of this chakra being out of balance.
This chakra is red in colour because it's the colour of the life force. This colour represents courage, passion, anger, and even violence. This is the colour that represents earth energy, the thing that anchors us to the planet that sustains us. Red is also the most visible colour in the entire spectrum and it's been used to convey the message of danger, poison and even threat. This colour pulls the eye forward, particularly our retinas, so that our energy is engaged outside of ourselves. Red warms, heats and tones the blood. But too much red can also raise the blood pressure and create irritation.
The five main life-areas that you can work on to create balance within the Root Chakra are: patience, structure, stability, security and manifestation.
Patience is rather self-explanatory but at the same time, with modern life and how quickly we exepct things to be fixed or done, patience is not as common as it once was. Think about when you're impatient for something to happen and how once it has happened, you're suddenly drained - that's because being impatient drains your energy. Energy that could otherwise be used for your health and well-being.
With structure, it's all about whether you are living a life that allows you to be the best you can be. Are you fulfilled in the life you have created for yourself? If you're not fulfilled, then you can always change how your life is - even if you think you can't, there's always something that can be changed. Structure is also related to the ideas of support and whether you feel that you are supported by others or your own self-belief.
Stability is all about whether you feel like your life is stable, whether you can deal with anything life throws at you. But at the same time, there's an element of whether you know what stability looks like in your life. If you don't, then maybe it's time for you to explore this concept. Being stable means being consistent with your life-choices. If stability is something you feel you need to work on, then do it and know that it will improve your Root Chakra.
With security, it's all about whether you have the basic needs covered - food, water, shelter and the ability to get what you need. But there's more because it's also about whether you feel secure in yourself, your own ability to withstand changes easily. Security also relates to whether you feel safe in the knowledge that you will be all right regardless of what happens around you, that you are protected and guided as you go through life.
Manifestation is a big topic but not always something connected with the Root Chakra but if you're connected to the earth energy, then you can grow an idea and make it real within your life. It's also connected to whether you feel as if you have the power to change anything about your life. If you feel deserving of something, then you activate the
When you want to work on the Root Chakra, there are many crystals you can use. When placed on or near the Root Chakra, crystals can help to ground someone who is confused, overstimulated or distracted by too many different demands or activities, thereby helping them to focus on what is important. Some of the associated crystals include: Tiger's Eye, Rutilated Quartz, Hematite, Smoky Quartz, Schorl (a type of Black Tourmaline), Red Jasper, Bloodstone, Garnet, Rock Crystal, Obsidian and Labradorite. You don't need to have all of them as you can work with just one crystal at a time.
Of course, there are herbs you can work with that resonate with the Root Chakra. These include: Lavender, Garlic, Dandelion, Ginger, Hibiscus, Cinnamon. Basically, a lot of herbs where you'd use the root are good for this chakra.
I hope this helps you to work on your own Root Chakra so that you can start balancing your life and your inner Self.
Peace and love to all!!!
