Merry Meet and Welcome to you magickal souls!!!!
So before I start it, it's similar to the Priestess Path because it starts at the beginning, working with the gods and asking for their blessing before any ritual works. The reason given for this is to "become more and more aware of the love with which they surround us in our daily life." And to be honest, this makes a lot of sense. Without their blessing, nothing can come of the magickal work I do.
What's interesting about this is that I'd never really asked for the blessing of the gods before doing any kind of ritual or spell work. It was never something that I had considered doing but it made sense to do so in order to deepen my own spiritual practices.
Francesca wrote that "Witches are scientists, though they are unlike many modern scientists" and I do feel like witches subtly influence the world around them, connecting with and working alongside nature to achieve a goal that is in the highest good of all, human, animal and plant.
While some may disagree with me, I think it's no wonder that magick was once known as alchemy, the precursor of and bridge to modern science. In creating our own spells, particularly liquids that are made with specific amounts of herbs, we experiment with those weights and measures until we find what works, much as we do with cooking and seasoning. Once we have found our ideal recipe, we can then share it so that others can use it too, so we can follow the recipes of others borne from their own experiments.
This particular lesson was a reminder that just because I recognise my obligation to family, friends, community, and nature, it doesn't means that I have to forget about my obligation to myself. Too often, we are taught in our childhoods that we are not important in any way, shape or form and as we get older, we don't tend to unlearn this so we neglect our own needs. We forget that if we don't take care of ourselves, we aren't doing anyone else any favours.
I feel like this lesson had quite a focus on not just what I can do for the Goddess, but what I can also do for myself. It's a reminder for self-care, which is something that I most definitely was not taught about as a child, so that's what I will focus on for this lesson and the assignment that I was set.
Something that came to my mind while contemplating this lesson was that if the Goddess deems me worthy and deserving of her attention, love and care, then I shouldn't let anyone try to convince me otherwise, even through events of the past. I can't change my past but I can change my way of thinking, and I think this will be a major theme of this course.
I loved and enjoyed doing the rituals given within this lesson, one to invoke the Goddess and the other to devoke Her. It felt like I was calling on a Mother-figure or aspect who could guide me through everything I did. While I didn't do any magickal spells or rituals of my own, it was nice to still feel connected through the suggested ones.
I did spend a fair amount of time doing things that I like to do, like cross-stitching, to help with where my mind was at. This is part of my self-care which I didn't realise until this particular week because I never considered it as something I could do as part of it. However, it is a mindful practice that allows me to contemplate about a range of things, quite literally anything at all.
This was more of a thoughtful week than I thought it was going to be but I'm still grateful to have had this time to connect with the Goddess through her aspect as a Creatrix and Mother.
I hope this inspires you to look into Francesca De Grandis' book, Be A Goddess, to do the course yourself.
Peace and love to all!!!!
