Uranus Retrograde 2025

ree

Merry Meet and Welcome to you magickal souls!!!!

It's almost time for the next planet to go retrograde and it's Uranus' turn. It goes retrograde on 6th September and won't station direct until 4th February 2026. This is because Uranus takes 84 years to orbit the Sun and takes about seven years to move through each sign of the zodiac. This means that each generation holds the possibility of change and innovation but differently to the one that came before and the one that comes after.

Uranus is associated with breakthroughs of old limits, originality, being unique and independent, and releasing built up energies. This outer planet will be moving through both Gemini and Taurus during this retrograde so these energies will be swirling around and mixing with the original Uranian energy.

Gemini is all about seeing both sides to a story, as symbolised by the twins, Castor and Pollux. Within mythology, both Roman and Greek, these brothers were the mortal son of the King of Sparta, Castor, and the divine son of Zeus, Pollux. They had plenty of adventures and were well-known for their horsemanship, boxing prowess, and are mentioned in at least one epic poem, as well as being involved in the Calydonian boar hunt.

As Castor was only mortal, he had a limited lifespan which ended after he got into a quarrel with a rival called Idas about some stolen cattle. Idas then ambushed Castor and fatally wounded him, and in retaliation, Zeus killed Idas with a strike from a thunderbolt. However, Pollux was grief-stricken and did not want to be parted from his twin, so he asked Zeus to split his immortality with Castor but the Fates needed balance so it was decreed that they had to spend an equal amount of time below ground in the Underworld as on Olympus or in the heavens, where they would take the form of the Gemini constellation.

Now Gemini is not just the "two-faced, talking behind your back, and traitorous" energy that some might assume. Instead it is all about balance and love, of loyalty and adaptability, as shown by the Greek mythology above. It is no wonder that Gemini is also an air sign and associated with the planet Mercury, which is the planetary embodiment of the Roman messenger of the Gods for whom it is named after (as the Greek counterpart is called Hermes). Especially since Mercury rules the areas of transportation, information, and communication.

Anyway, back to Uranus and its retrograde through Gemini and Taurus. Now that I've explained the Gemini energy, let's talk a bit about Taurus, which very much has a peace-loving energy despite it being symbolised by the Bull. The Bull is also connected to Zeus who turned himself into a white one in order to save Europa, the Phoenician Princess, who went on to become the mother of King Minos. So with this, Taurus is associated with being dependable, efficiency, productivity and having security, especially the physical kind.

This particular retrograde comes to help us to set aside the things that have stopped us from witnessing or realising/noticing that loyalty and love are already present in our lives. This period of 150 days also gives us the opportunity to reflect on the events from the last several years, all the unexpected shifts and changes that have occurred.

This retrograde will be the last time Uranus is in Taurus for most of us (as it won't return to this earthy sign until around 2110) so it is incredibly important that we do all of this reflection work as it will show us where we can still make changes while also moving towards a better future.

To help us to navigate the next few months, I created a spread and pulled some cards from the Magical Nordic tarot deck by Jayne Wallace.

Which area should we focus on during this retrograde?

Three of Cups

With this card, we're being told to focus on our relationships, even though the keyword for this card is "friendship". All relationships could be described as friendships, just with differing types of closeness involved.

If we aren't used to having lots of friends or people we are close to, then making new friends can be overwhelming. Perhaps in this instance, we should be focusing on deepening the relationships we have already formed.

When it comes to any relationship, they need to be built from the basics (or foundations) up. This means we need to trust these people with our secrets, hopes, dreams and lives. Maybe we have felt like we can't do this for some reason.

How should we expect another change or upheaval?

Five of Wands

With this card, we are being warned of further upheavals ahead of us which will take the form of battles.

In the modern world, these could be heated arguments with our nearest and dearest, where we stand up for what we want in our lives, our goals, our desires.

Equally, this card could be warning against internal battles where we question what we want, or what we think we want because we have a number of people telling us we should want something or someone else.

So as much as the keyword for this card is "battles", it feels as if this card is also asking us to stay strong within ourselves so that we can fight the battles ahead with a kind of conviction and confidence.

How can we nurture a healthy independence?

Queen of Swords

With this card, we are being told that we can nurture a healthy independence by realising that we hold the power within ourselves to gain freedom, from others and to do the things that we want to do in our lives.

Some people will try to make us rely on them for advice, decisions and just to ensure that we never know what it means to be the only one in control of our lives.

It's important that we try to take some time to discern between true love and freedom, and someone else trying to control us for their own purposes.

The only thing stopping us from realising that we truly do hold power within us is ourselves. If we are blind to our power, we are easily manipulated.

What needs unblocking for us to feel more secure?

Page of Swords

With this card, we are being shown that we need to unblock a sense of vigilance in order to feel more secure.

But this card is also sowing that vigilance can only be learned with the knowledge deepening over time. This is because this card is a Page, so it is at the beginning of developing into the King (or Queen) who has mastered being vigilant.

However, there is almost a sense of warning against being too vigilant or fearing that there are too many hazards and dangers in the world at large.

There will always be danger and hazards so we cannot live our lives filled with fear as this only limits us and what we can achieve in our lives. We need to be vigilant while still living and enjoying life.

These cards seem to indicate that we are on an internal personal journey while Uranus is retrograde. Our biggest obstacle is our own selves because we hold the power within to accept and realise what freedom truly means, which battles are worth fighting and which aren't, who we can trust to support us and those we can't.

Uranus is showing us that we need to let go of these restrictive ways of thinking that we have deceived ourselves into believing that we still need.

I hope this has been helpful and informative for the next few months. If you'd like a more in depth personal look at how Uranus' retrograde is likely to impact your life, my diary and inbox are open.

Peace and love to all!!!!
