Retrogrades: Chiron 2025

ree

Merry Meet and Welcome to you magickal souls!!!!

The next retrograde is the wounded healer, Chiron, which is both a comet and an asteroid, orbiting the Sun between Jupiter and Neptune. This is interesting because Chiron is both wounded and healer within Greek mythology. Chiron is both a comet and an asteroid because it/he is an astrological centaur and has characteristics of both: having a cloud of dust and gas when its orbit takes it closer to the Sun, and having an irregular shape while being made of some kind of rock. Chiron is also said to have a ring system similar to Saturn but less prominent.

But let's talk about Chiron and why this retrograde is important. Chiron doesn't spend a specific amount of time in one sign as it can take between 1 and 9 years to move through one zodiac sign. This is because Chiron has an elliptical orbit which means that it can spend shorter amounts of time in one sign while others it takes much longer.

As previously mentioned, Chiron is the Wounded Healer from Greek mythology and is usually depicted as a Centaur, which happens to be the astronomical name for something that is two things at once as it shares characteristics similar to the mythological Centaur creatures since they are both human and horse at the same time. The astronomical name is based on the mythological.

To understand the astrological/astronomical Chiron, the mythological needs to be acknowledged. According to the Ancient Greeks, Chiron was a mentor of heroes, and skilled with his hands due to the wisdom he had. Most of the other centaurs were seen as uncivilised and wild creatures, while Chiron was well-known to be gentle, kind and intelligent.

The most prominent way Chiron became the Wounded Healer came about through the accidental actions of one of the heroes he mentored, Heracles (who may be more well-known as Hercules). However, Chiron was also wounded at birth as he was born from sexual assault and abandoned at birth by his mother, causing some emotional/mental wounds. Apollo and his twin sister, Artemis, took him in and taught him healing, archery, music, arts, prophecy, and hunting. While Heracles was dealing with his Fourth Labour, he visited the cave of Pholus, the centaur, and had to fight off other centaurs with his bow and arrows after Pholus opened a bottle of wine that was gifted by Dionysus. These arrows had been dipped in the blood of the Hydra (his Second Labour), making them poisonous, and one hit Chiron who was caught in the melee.

Despite knowing so much about healing and being the son of Cronus (making him the half-brother of Zeus), Chiron was unable to heal his wound and also was unable to die so he endured. Until either he or Herakles (stories are murky on who it was exactly) made a deal with Zeus, exchanging Chiron's immortality for the freedom of Prometheus. After Chiron died as a mortal, Zeus chose to immortalise him in the constellation of Sagittarius, which is now symbolised by a Centaur wielding a bow and arrows.

Now that we know more about Chiron and his mythology, let's have a look at how Chiron can affect our lives astrologically. Chiron relates to both our emotional and physical wounds, similar to his own wounds, so he asks us to look at our own personal wounds if we want to be able to heal them and then teach others how we can heal.

Chiron goes retrograde for about five months every year and this year, Chiron will be retrograde from 30th July 2025 until 3rd January 2026. For this retrograde, Chiron will be moving within the sign of Aries, which is the first of the zodiac wheel. This means that Chiron is asking us how we can take the first steps towards healing, not just for our own individual selves but also for others and the greater, collective, good. There is so much happening in individual countries and the wider world, that we could really do with some kind of healing but the only people who can take that first step is us. However, we do need to work on our personal wounds before we look into helping others.

Let's simplify things a bit by looking a collective reading for how we can approach the next few months. I put together this reading and used the Botanical Inspirations Oracle deck by Lynn Araujo.

What is stopping us from us from taking the first step towards healing?

Honeysuckle

This card, and flower, come to tell us that we are putting material possessions over healing. We want stability and security but we don't always know what they really look like, so we can't actually work towards achieving them because we don't recognise the form they take in our lives.

We've forgotten to consider our feelings, whether we are truly happy with our lives, what we are doing, and where we are going.

We've forgotten what it means to truly be affectionate with ourselves and others so we can't connect with them.

We are being stopped from taking the first step towards healing by our lack of being able to intertwine our lives with the lives of others. We are losing the ability to connect with and truly see others during times of vulnerability.

How can we best overcome this obstacle?

Violet

With this card, we are being told that we can overcome this lack of connection with others by learning what faithfulness and modesty mean. In other words, they may be better known as loyalty and humility.

Neither of these are necessarily bad things but they are things that seem to be misunderstood in today's society as concepts to ignore and/or put down when they are seen in other people.

Loyalty and faithfulness work both ways, so anyone within the relationship, personal or professional, should show both to the other side.

Humility and modesty don't mean that we can't still celebrate our successes but it does mean holding space for others to celebrate their successes too, just as they hold space for us. It also means not putting our successes in others' faces to the point that we make others uncomfortable.

Why is this obstacle so important for everyone?

Bellflower

This card is saying that we needto overcome this obstacle so that we can truly understand what it means to be grateful for who and what we have in our lives.

If we aren't humble and modest, we can't learn what it truly means to be celebrated or just celebrate with nothing but love in our hearts.

If we aren't loyal and faithful to those around us, we won't know who it is that we can trust and want in our lives. Nor will we know what it means to be trusted ourselves.

So learning how to actually be those things will bring a greater sense of gratitude to each of us. That gratitude will then work towards bringing more joy, loyalty, humility, and love into our lives. It will also bring a different view to our past so we can create a brighter vision for the future.

How will overcoming this obstacle make healing easier for everyone?

Lily

With this card, we are being shown that by overcoming this obstacle we will able to heal much easier because we will be rare and real virtues in life.

We will be the epitome of role models that others can aspire to be like. We will be able to show others how to heal wounds that we might otherwise think will never go away, that they will always hurt and affect us in some way.

Lilies naturally need to be in a well-drained area (whether pot or soil) so to use this as an allegory for us, then if we are to be like the Lily, we would need to be able to release our emotions without letting them collect and poison our roots.

The Lily is best viewed without any spent blooms, so there's also the advice here that we need to keep cleaning house and removing things that we no longer need.

While Chiron is retrograde, it seems as if the energy will be quite subtle and gentle. Chiron wants us to heal from being disconnected from the people and the natural world around us, but we can only do that if we are willing to bring modesty and loyalty back to society. This is so that we can bring a deeper sense of gratitude to our personal worlds as well as the wider world. Again, the only way we can achieve it is if we have the presence of mind to release what we don't need to carry, what might poison the foundations we have built our lives on.

I hope this gives some insight into how we can approach the next few months while Chiron is retrograde. If you would like a more personal look at how Chiron's retrograde might impact you and your life, my inbox and diary are open.

Peace and love to all!!!!
