Merry Meet and Welcome to you magickal souls!!!!
It's time to think about the next planet to go retrograde, which is Pluto, the planet of transformation. This retrograde will run from 4th May through to 14th October, and Pluto will be in the sign of Aquarius for the whole thing, something that hasn't happened since the late 1700s!!
For anyone who is new to retrogrades, this term applies to the optical illusion of a planet looking like it is going backwards in its orbit. It's an optical illusion because it doesn't actually happen, even though it looks like it does.
So with this particular retrograde, this means that Pluto's usual energies are slightly more internal than usual. Pluto is an outer planet so it is more likely to affect whole communities instead of individuals.
It should also be noted that the last time Pluto was in Aquarius between 1778 and 1798, there were a lot of revolutions going on: the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), the French Revolution (1789-1799), the Liège Revolution (1789-1791), the Belgian/Brabant Revolution (1789-1790), the Haitian Revolution (1791-1804), and the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Some of these revolutions ended after Pluto left Aquarius but they started while Pluto was in Aquarius.
Another big event occurred in 1793 when Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI of France were killed using a guillotine - an event that sat in the middle of the last Pluto retrograde in Aquarius. Given that there is a lot of social and political unrest around the world, it seems to be assumed that more revolutions will happen.
Even before 1778, Pluto was in the sign of Aquarius between 1532 and 1553, a time that saw England throw off the yoke of Roman Catholicism to establish the Church of England. The Spanish Conquest of the Incan Empire also started during this particular retrograde, along with Anne Boleyn losing her life in 1536, and the Italian War (1542-1546) took place. King Henry VIII died in 1547 which triggered a three-way political fight for the throne between Edward VI, Mary I and Elizabeth I. Edward reigned during the latter part of this retrograde, while Mary's reign started at the end of it.
So there's a history of different revolutions and rebellions happening or at least starting when Pluto is retrograde in Aquarius so the next couple of decades could well be fraught with the same energy. Pluto entered Aquarius in 2023 and will continue through to 2043. Pluto's retrogrades last 5-6 months which means that almost every year, we should look out for some kind of social, and/or intellectual evolution.
But let's focus on this year's retrograde. Pluto is the planet of transformation, evolution, and transition. This planet is also helpful with bringing up repressed and/or lost pieces of ourselves. This is the planet that tells us that we can't ignore things forever, and the force with which our emotions need an outlet becomes greater the more we try to repress them. Essentially, all of the issues we face as individuals and communities cannot be ignored and the more we try to do so, the harder we will find it to admit the truth of the situation.
Aquarius is the sign most associated with social aspects, ways of thinking and exchanging ideas, and freedom, due to being the fixed air sign. This means that the air element connection is related to communication and thinking, being rational, logical and objective. The modality, fixed, means that this sign is stubborn, persistent, great at getting things done, and tackling problems slowly and methodically.
Mixing everything together, this Pluto retrograde is likely to impact our social communications, social issues that most of us have ignored for too long now. Our thinking towards being a society rather than just individuals who happen to share the planet could also be affected. This retrograde is very much a societal focus but perhaps in ways that we've denied until now.
So let's have a look at how this Pluto retrograde in Aquarius will potentially impact our society. I created a spread for this and used the Wild Unknown Tarot deck by Kim Krans to receive wisdom.

What societal issue will be brought to our attention most forcefully?
Three of Swords
With this card, the societal issue that we need to pay attention to is how we are hurt but still tied to the people who hurt us.
This is the worst kind of betrayal because we can't escape our wounding and it keeps happening whether we want it to or not.
Decisions we have made in the past have led to the situation and issue we have to face. We are tied to it, just as it is tied to us.
What we need to remember is that we still have the choice and opportunity to change how the future is shaped. But we need to free ourselves from the restrictive decisions we made previously.
The betrayal we are facing may have been caused by the decisions we have made before but it doesn't matter where the "blame" lies because we need to deal with what comes next. Our whole society will be affected and it is our responsibility to sort this out for the best interests of everyone.

How can we start to transform our way of thinking?
Six of Wands
It's interesting that this card comes to help us when it comes to transformation because there is a butterfly flying up and away from what look like six thorny branches.
The butterfly is a symbol of transformation, rebirth, and hope. Perhaps this card comes to say that there isn't any specific course of action we need to take to start the transformation because it is already underway.
The fact that this card shows the branches or wands as reaching upwards towards the butterfly could symbolise that regardless of what we do as a society, we will still be successful.
We may face a lot of obstacles but we will be able to overcome them. However, we can't sit and look back on them because we still need to decide where it is we want our society to go in the future.

In what way will a transition be made known to us?
Nine of Wands
To be honest, this card is confirming part of the Six of Wands: that everything is already in motion, perhaps even subconsciously. This is especially likely with Pluto having been in the sign of Aquarius since 2023.
But the transition that we as a society most need will be made known to use through how we feel. We may feel weary, filled with doubt, and fear about what is actually happening, particularly if we can't see the progress that we are making towards the solution.
Sometimes we may doubt that we are anywhere near the resolution but in that instance, all we will need to do is look up a bit, to check out to-do lists and see that we've come so far already with the end in sight. A new start shown by the crescent moon will be our reward but we need to rally our confidence to get there.

What have we lost as a society that we need to rediscover within us?
Justice
With this card, we are being shown that we have lost the idea that we are all connected because we share the same planet, even if we live in different countries.
Why does one society have to be superior than any others? Why can't they all be equal?
We have a choice to make as to whether how things have been is right or wrong. This choice will then inform the kind of revolutions that will occur during the next couple of decades
We have also lost the knowledge that every choice we make will affect and impact our lives, both our own and the lives of those around us, both as we make those choices and in the future.
This is a weight that not everyone is willing to acknowledge or accept, but it is something that we can no longer shun as it is part of the divine balance.
With Pluto being the outermost planet, the effects of its retrograde will take some time to tangibly see within our lives. So the transformational transition that is coming may not occur during the next six months but it's something that will likely appear before 2043 when Pluto moves into Pisces. However, everything is underway to allow us to heal from the continuous betrayal after we free ourselves from it but there is still work that needs to be done to get us to that new start that we need.
There is still hope to be found within this as revolutions can, and do, improve people's lives. So I hope this gives you a sense of hope and if you would like a more personal look at how this Pluto retrograde will impact you, my diary and inbox are open.
Peace and love to all!!!!
